Racine Soap Box Derby runs it final race
We are sorry to report that after over 30 years of racing, the Racine Area Soap Box Derby organization has ceased operations until further notice. There are a lot of factors involved, but our fate can be summarized with the loss of two key items required to keep racing alive in Racine: Families and finances. We've lacked any new families in the sport for a few years now. That's translated to a lack of new volunteers to keep things going, as well as new kids to bring cars. The economy of the last few years has also taken its toll - sponsorships have completely dried up. As a final blow, our costs to "rent" the hill from the Racine Parks department doubled, twice, in the last two years. We want to thank all the volunteers, sponsors, help, and all the moms, dads, aunts and uncles. Without you, we could not have created all those wonderful memories for our kids!
This web page will remain here for at least another year, to help preserve the history of our sport- don't forget to check out the results of recent (and not-so-recent) races! Don't forget that derby racing is still alive and well in Madison, in Green Bay, and also in Chicago.
